About Jukkasjärvi
Jukkasjärvi is a magical place in northern Sweden where Arctic nature, vibrant culture, and unique experiences meet. Located just a few kilometers north of Kiruna, this charming village is internationally known for its iconic ICEHOTEL – the world’s first hotel built entirely of ice and snow – but also for its rich cultural heritage and close connection to the surrounding nature.
ICEHOTEL is the heart of Jukkasjärvi and an experience in itself. Each winter, the hotel is transformed into a sparkling work of art created from ice from the Torne River, with unique rooms, art installations, and a restaurant made of ice. During the summer months, the experience lives on through Icehotel 365, where ice art and Arctic creativity can be experienced year-round in a permanent ice exhibition.
In addition to the ice art, Jukkasjärvi holds a rich history and a vibrant cultural heritage. Here you will find one of Sweden’s oldest wooden churches, Jukkasjärvi Church from the 17th century, as well as the local heritage center that tells about the village’s history, Sami traditions and Torne Valley culture. At Nutti Sámi Siida, visitors get a deeper insight into the Sami lifestyle, with authentic experiences that convey the relationship between man, nature and the ancient traditions in the area.
The surrounding nature is as magnificent as it is tranquil. During the summer, you can experience the bright nights of the midnight sun, while the winter offers the northern lights that dance across the sky in green and violet hues. Together with the Arctic silence and the vast nature, this makes Jukkasjärvi a destination that offers adventure, immersion and peaceful inspiration – all year round.
